*Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a new and upcoming treatment to relieve pain and promote long-term healing of musculoskeletal conditions. This technique has demonstrated beneficial effects in a variety of conditions including: knee, back, shoulder, hip and elbow injuries as well as osteoarthritis.

Following an injury, the body's first response is to deliver platelet cells to initially repair the area. Platelet cells are heavily concentrated with growth and healing factors. PRP therapy magnifies the body's efforts to naturally heal. PRP injections are prepared with your own blood so there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a very low risk of allergic reaction. Once a small sample of your blood is drawn, the tubes are centrifuged to separate the platelets from other blood components. The concentrated PRP is then injected around the injury, releasing growth factors, recruiting reparative cells and significantly strengthening the abnormal tissue.
